Electronic self-defense system Omut-KM

The Omut-KM is a high-performance airborne countermeasures system, which designed for individual protection of an aircraft and the small task aircraft cells against all kinds of radar weapons.

The electronic self-defense system Omut-KM was developed by Kyiv-based Radionix LLC.

The Omut-KM system generates different types of active jamming, which effect on the radar measuring channels (range, rate and angle) of the airborne missile intercept systems, air defense missile systems and active (semi-active) missile homing heads.

The Omut-KM provides a full aircrafts protection (in front and rear hemisphere) and increasing a possibility of individual survival.

The Omut-KM consists of two pods with equipment, which are hung to a station under an aircraft wing, as well as control and display (such as multifunctional display) panels installed in a cabin.

Each pod is designed as a sub beam and that provides the opportunity to set a weapon under the beam. Both pods include the same unit sets, which allow the Omut-KM system to provide an electronic security for front and rear hemisphere.

The Omut-KM self-defense system consists of:

  • Receiving cross-polarized antenna
  • Transmitting cross-polarized antenna
  • SHF signal receiving unit
  • Multichannel digital receiver unit
  • Multichannel digital signal analysis unit
  • Multichannel SHF signal modulator unit
  • Power amplifier unit
  • Power amplifier unit

Control and display panel is installed in a pilot cabin. The panel provides a system control (switching on/off a transmitter, “front hemisphere” or “both front and rear hemisphere” mode selection, jamming variants, etc.), as well as provides control for the system availability.

A slight modification of an aircraft is required for the Omut-KM container and equipment installation. The Omut-KM is not required to be integrated into an aircraft airborne equipment complex.

Each container of the Omut-KM has built-in check. In case of failure, a built-in tests system finds a failed unit. The failed unit replacement is performed without extra system setting.

Flight preparation avoids the need to use the special-purpose tools. The extra settings are not required after an airborne jamming system installation.

The Omut-KM system does not occupy a point of an aircraft hook station and that provides the possibility to fix an aircraft standard weapon under container.

Principles of operation

The Omut-KM jamming station main operational principle is continuous interaction between the multichannel digital reception units, analysis units and radio signal modulating units.

Frequency range continuous scanning, with instantaneous analysis of 1 GHz frequency band, is performed by means of the multichannel digital receiver unit and signal analysis unit. In the phase of analyzing, the instantaneous frequency bandwidth is passed through multichannel speed digitalizing, spectral analysis for potential threat searching, electronic environment changes measuring as well as determined threat prioritization. The modulator control commands for each target individual jamming are generated due to gathered information.

The multichannel SHF signal phase-frequency modulator offers the possibility to perform independent effective jamming for 10 objects. Every interference effect is the sum of repeated signal and combination of modulations such as amplitude, frequency and phase.

The DRFM technology application gives the possibility to perform a spectral image multiple radiation of the enemy radio-electronic equipment, engaged during a signal reception, and which result is multiple target pips on a vision indicator, which greatly complicates the actual target isolation.

When the Omut-KM active jamming station is used as an action aid, then it is possible to apply the AWG technology, which provides the possibility to irradiate the enemy radio-electronic equipment using one of the memorized composite radio signals.
