President changed the leadership of the Special Operations Forces

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with the new Commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Major General Hryhoriy Halahan.

Decree № 358/2020 on his appointment was signed by the President on August 25. By another decree – № 357/2020 – Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed Ihor Luniov from this post.

The President noted that the current ceasefire had changed the objectives of the Joint Forces Operation:

In case of a greater number of provocations from pro-Russian militants both the leadership and the personnel of the Special Operations Forces should work harder to prevent them and take preventive measures,” the Head of State stressed. It is also necessary to introduce more aggressive measures to counter the challenges that arise – to adequately respond to provocative actions by the enemy

Among the measures that should also be taken by the new commander of the SOF, Volodymyr Zelenskyy mentioned the continued development of all components of the Special Operations Forces of Ukraine.

The newly appointed commander of the SOF assured the President of the most important thing — high-quality performance of assigned tasks in different conditions, continuation of work aimed at the development of maritime and aviation components of the Special Operations Forces.
