On May 28, 2025, the first international Drone Summit 2025 was held in Riga, organized by the Latvian Ministry of Defense. The event brought together over 1,000 experts, policymakers, and defense industry representatives from 20 countries, including members of the Drone Coalition.

During the summit, Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds announced the establishment of a Competence Center for Autonomous Systems, which will begin operations in the autumn of 2025. The center will focus on developing and implementing drone and counter-drone solutions, supporting the national armed forces, and cooperating with Latvian technology companies.

It was also announced that Turkey and Belgium had expressed their intention to join the international Drone Coalition, led by Latvia and the United Kingdom, which supports Ukraine. Member countries of the coalition have committed to providing €2.75 billion in 2025 to support Ukraine in the field of drone technology.

"The International Drone Coalition is becoming stronger, which means that we will be able to supply Ukraine with more and more drones, while also strengthening the defense industries of Latvia, the EU, and NATO countries. Our strength lies in unity, so the joining of new allies to the coalition will allow us to more effectively provide Ukraine with the much-needed support in the fight against the aggressor," said Spruds.

As part of the summit, an exhibition was held where 100 companies from 16 countries presented their latest unmanned technologies and innovations. Special attention was given to engaging young people: over 50 participants took part in hands-on drone engineering workshops, during which 30 drones were assembled for delivery to Ukraine.
