Danger Close: The Battle of Long Tan is a 2019 Australian war film about the Battle of Long Tan during the Vietnam War. The film was directed by Kriv Stenders, with Travis Fimmel playing one of the lead roles.
The battle took place on August 18, 1966, when D Company of the 6th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, was ambushed while on patrol in the Long Tan area. The fighting lasted about three and a half hours and is considered one of the most intense engagements involving the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) during the Vietnam War.
Australian forces received support from artillery, air support, and armored vehicles, which helped them hold their position. In total, 18 Australian soldiers were killed and 23 wounded.
The film aims to portray the events of the battle with attention to detail, focusing on the experiences and actions of the soldiers during the engagement. Travis Fimmel plays one of the commanding officers, with the story reflecting actual decisions and circumstances faced during the battle.
