Ukraine is working on a contract for the purchase of a large batch of lethal weapons in the United States, which can be implemented already this year.
Ukrainian Ambassador to the U.S. Valery Chaly told this in an exclusive interview with Ukrinform.
He did not elaborate on the specifications of the arms, but stressed that the agreement was possible "thanks to the trust in Ukraine, which was not back in 2015", as well as the amendments to the Ukrainian legislation.
"In order to go this way, it was necessary to take important steps, for example, to open the possibility of a direct weapons purchases by the Ministry of Defense abroad, primarily in the US. Why do I say ‘primarily’, because 92% of all military-technical assistance, which Ukraine received in four years, came from the United States. I emphasize 92%," the ambassador said.
